What a productive day yesterday. Watched the movie 300 in the afternoon, donated blood at the hospital at 3 p.m. (trying to keep the blood donations a ritual every 3 months), and finally my first visit to the Muzium Negeri Sembilan (State Museum)
Honestly, I've never been to the State Museum in my 27 years old life even though it is just a 10 mins drive from home and I've passed by it weekly if not daily. But I have no compeling reason to visit it until I saw this, Pameran Jin & Hantu (Genie & Ghost Exhibition).
Well, I don't believe in Jin or toyol or whatever the Malays ghost stories or legend, but curiosity did get a hold of me to see what are they actually exhibiting. And since I am a Seremban boy I think should visit the place at least once. So I went there in the hot afternoon around 3.30 p.m. after my hospital visit.
(Sorry no photos. I lost my Palm Zire while helping an Indian chap pushing his bike last 2 weeks.) This is my first time to see that the car park are fully full. Usually when I pass by this place as quiet as a ghost mansion. And we have to queue up to enter the exhibition area. Well I can see that the organizer tried to hype up the atmosphere with the P.A. playing some errie music. But it gets kinda bored after a while because the music are rather short.
The ticket cost RM8 for adult and RM4 for children. Another RM 8 if you want to bring in your camera. Once entering, the smell of kemenyan (malay incense) hit my nostril. Ahh, I hate that smell. Anyway the place were dark and it did give a eerrie theme.
So what are they exhibiting? Some dried up carcasses of claim genie, they are really small. And they did not provide a detailed information of each artifact. And the placement of the artifact are rather poor. I have to jostle a little with the crowd to have a better look at those.
The exhibit are rather small and I am finished visiting in 15mins. Rather disappointing for a RM 8 entrance fee. There is less than 20 artifacts on display. I can even name all the exhibits. The are carcasses of claimed genie, the phoenix bird, Hantu Raya, and so other smaller stuff. One display caught my attention, that is a dried up and stiffened up tiger penis and testical and crocodile penis. Apparently I think the bomoh (malay healers) use it in their rituals for reasons I think all male would know. Hehehe.
That's basically sums up my first visit to the Muzium Negeri. For those who still wants to visit the exhibition after reading this do not get your hopes so high else you would be highly disappointed. Oh yeah, the exhibit will be on for 3 months starting 10th March 2007.

Do they have a preserved pontianak? what does a croc penis look like.
No they don't have any preserved Pontianak. Was hoping there were some. But they do have a few preserved mini pontianak or jin on display like pictured on the poster.
The croc and the tiger penis are about the same length. About a foot long and it's sharp & pointy. The tiger penis has some sharp edges below the penis head & still has its testicals attached. Of course it's totally dried up and it looks like dried fig fruits.
Oh yeah forgot to add that interestingly the first infomation you'll read when you enter the exhibition is what the Bible actually says about spirits and Satan. I totally did not expect that to be up in this conservative muslim state.
erm... conservative? no lah, unless you are in kelantan :)
LM, you would be suprised that even though Kelantan may look conservative through the media, I've been told by fellow Seremban friends that there people there was pretty open minded actually. My friends saw pigs running all over the place along the street. I'll bet you bet you'll never see that happening here.
