Seremban 'Old Town Coffee Shop'

It's been almost a week since my first post. Not having a internet connection at home does make it inconvenient to update the blog. But anyway on Monday I went out for some banking in the morning and I saw this at the Public Bank town branch.


The bank were still not open when I reach there at 9.05am. Looking at the signboard I realize the opening hours were at 9.30a.m. I didn't know it as I rarely does banking this early. But the thing that intrigue me most is Malaysian are basically impatient type. Hey, there's still 25mins to go and you do not need to queue up till the glass door is inches away from your nose so that you can be the first on the counter ok? And that is excatly what happened. It's blocking the bank staff from moving in and out. Duh....

So while waiting for the bank to open I pop in to I would say the oldest coffeeshop I know in Seremban town which is still in business. It's called Yam Hoe and it is situated just the opposite of the bank.



I used to play around in this shop when I was very young and my father is renting a stall selling chicken rice here. That was around 20 years back.



Nothing much changes since then. The wall still spot an old photo that has been hanging there years ago...



If you are a foreigner and would like to visit this shop, the owner of this shop suprisingly speaks FLUENT English. It's not a common sight here in Malaysia to see a old chinese apek in shorts and singlet speaking English better than our local university graduates and established businessman.



I sat down and ordered a toast and a cup of coffee. The toast is crispy and yummy, spread with kaya and butter. Really an authentic old town taste with old town environment. Even the table are still made from marble and wooden chairs. You can't find those anymore in Seremban town. Even some modern 'old town' coffeeshop can't match this one. The marble table felt cold when you rest your arm on it and the wooden chairs still feel solid even after all these years.
